The Fast Show got off to a damp start on a drizzly Saturday test day, and sadly, the dragstrip was unable to open all day. To keep those desperate to play with their cars entertained, the handling track was opened for several hours, and some hilarious handbrake-turn antics took place, with some fierce competition for the top times. Those brave enough to camp over so early in the year were rewarded with a thumping time with Ignition in the Pod Palais on Saturday night.
What a difference a day makes! Sunday was wall-to-wall sunshine, and clearly it was what the entire petrolhead population had been waiting for, as the crowd arrived in their thousands. Club display areas filled up to bursting point with cool cars, and the track resounded to the noises of highly tuned race cars preparing to do battle.
The Show and Shine competition also filled out in record time, with over 60 stunning cars packing out the paddock, each with something different to offer. These were joined by some invited cars from Max Power magazine, and the whole area moved to a beat supplied by the ever-entertaining Richie Don.
The top cars of the day were judged as follows:
A shocking pink and white ride that was flamboyant without being offensive. Packing a decent sound system, flawless exterior and crisp white leather interior, this car was the pick of an excellent bunch.

Run What Ya Brung
Over on the racetrack, a huge number of eager run what ya brungers were raring to go after a frustrating test-day. We’re sorry track time was tight and not everyone was able to get their fix, despite the fact we ran until dark, but those that did get a chance on track put in some great times with some crazy machines! The winners at the end of the day were as follows:
Race Class Winners
Also on track were race classes from the HKS and ESC drag series, featuring the fastest modified cars in Europe. A real rollercoaster ride lay in store, with some great performances and also bitter upsets involving some of the top race machines. Also on track was the 1-mile run in support of Sport Relief, where human-power took precedence above horse-power. Thanks to everyone that took part and donated to this worthwhile charity.
Miss Fast Show
Far less serious than the business going on on-track was the ever-amusing Miss Fast Show competition. With a brilliant turn-out of 13 girls wanting to compete for the title, a harsh series of eliminations took place kicking out a couple of girls at each round. First of all, gymnastic skills were put to the test, then a mass wrestling competition took place that set socks flying, then finally, the old classic no-hands banana peeling took place. Rising to each challenge with stunning skills was the beautiful Gina Mayfield, who saw off her competitors one-by-one, and won over the affection of the huge crowd in the audience-reaction final.
Handling Track
The handling track re-opened on Sunday lunchtime, and the opportunity to get some more laps of the fun but testing track was jumped on by many people eager to beat the times set on the wet Saturday. Daniel Simpson in his Renault Clio ran a superb time of 21.22 seconds to take the win. His precision handbrake work for the final reverse manoeuvre gave him the edge over his competitive adversaries. Full table of times on the Handling page.
Live Action Arena
Sharing the Live Action Arena with the handling track was Terry Grant, one of the world’s top stunt drivers, who brought out his new cars and tricks for 2010 along with the usual bevy of beauties prepared to put themselves in the firing line. The Podzilla Monster Truck took to leaping mini-buses and crashing cars in a display of awe-inspiring strength, and drifters hit the track too, with displays of precision sideways skills and tyre frying power.
Thanks to everyone who made this the biggest Fast Show ever! We apologise for the mud around site, and we apologise if you had to queue to get in or out. We had such a polarisation of weather that it made getting everyone in and out a tough job, so thanks for remaining patient. We hope you had a great time and we’ll see you back at the Pod soon.
